Course Overview

These courses provide an introduction to geographic and spatial science and focuses on performing basic operations using ArcGIS Pro software. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are tools for managing, describing, analyzing, and presenting information about geographic features (e.g., location, size, shape) and their attributes (descriptive information, e.g., population, household income, flooding risk, etc.). Through individual and group exercises, students will explore essential geospatial concepts and gain hands-on experience with designing, implementing, and troubleshooting functions in GIS applications. Topics include map design, data management, spatial data processing and spatial analysis. Students will learn the possibilities of how GIS tools can be used to address complex human and environmental problems.
