Reference books are great sources to begin you research as they contextualize topics and lead you to secondary and/or primary sources.
Our HPU Discovery tool allows you to find books, articles, videos and more in one single search. To only retrieve books, filter your search by using the format limiter on the left side of your search results.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are off-campus, you may be prompted to log in to your MyHPU.edu account before accessing our online resources.
Can't find the book you need in our system? You can request books from other mainland institutions using our Interlibrary Loan service. Below is the form for book requests.
Once you find books from our HPU Discovery tool, you should make sure that books are available at HPU. If the books are physical, get the location and call number information — access eBooks by clicking on the "View eBook" link.
Note: There are three libraries collections - Atherton Library and Atherton Storage, both located at Hawaii Loa Campus and Waterfront Library at our Downtown location in WP 6 302. With your call number in hand, go to the appropriate library to find your books.
Read the call number from left to right by sections- find the letters first, then the whole number next to it, followed by the letter and number combination, and the year in the end.
Books are arranged by subject using the Library of Congress classification system. Therefore whenever you find a book in the stacks, you may find other relevant books next to it. If you cannot find a book, Ask A Librarian!
HPU faculty, staff, and students may borrow circulating materials from the University Libraries upon presentation of a valid HPU ID card (UniCard). All patrons are subject to the Circulating Materials Policy of the HPU Libraries and are responsible for the materials borrowed.
