This guide is intended to introduce you to the Art & Artifacts collection at the HPU Library. Several years ago, Professor Jerome Feldman, a faculty member in Art History, generously donated a remarkable collection of Micronesian artifacts to Hawaiʻi Loa College. Following the merger of Hawaiʻi Loa College with Hawaiʻi Pacific University, this collection became part of the University's holdings. Among the items in the collection are several fans.
With the support of a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the Library was able to hire a conservator to assess the collection and acquire necessary mounting materials. We are fortunate to have Sara Nelson volunteering her expertise to mount the artifacts and develop this research guide. Currently, we are displaying the fans and are excited to expand our exhibits and provide additional information in the future. Stay tuned for more updates!
