Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

ArcGIS Software

Locations at HPU of the physical computers with ArcGIS installed on them. 
 

  1. WP 6-302 (WP Library): ArcGIS Pro is on the 4 computers in the WP library. They are available when the buildings are open.
     

  2. Oceanic Institute (OI) Computer Lab: ArcGIS Pro is installed on the 13 computers in #203. They are available when the buildings are open.
     

  3. Learning Commons at Aloha Tower: ArcGIS Pro is on the 3 physical computers in the back adjacent to the Macintosh computers (they are designated with an orange label). They are available when the buildings are open.


To use ArcGIS Pro on your own computer, you will need to download the ArcGIS Pro software from ESRI. Enrolled students are provided with an ArcGIS Pro license during the course.

ArcGIS software suite is a windows based software, and does not work on MacOS (previously OS X) natively.

ArcGIS software suite Minimum System Requirements:

· Windows 7 or  Windows 8.1 or Windows 10 (64-Bit)

· CPU with 4 cores

· 4GB of RAM

· 4GB + 32GB of Hard Drive Space (Software + Software Temp Files)

· Video/Graphics Adapter with 512MB vRAM

ArcGIS software suite does not run properly on the University’s VDI’s due to the hardware requirements.

In order to use ArcGIS software suite, on a MacOS you need to install windows via BootCamp (Method 1) or using Virtualization Software (Method 2)

Important Notes

· Need at least a minimum of 55GB of free hard drive space on your startup drive

· Need at least a minimum of 6GB of RAM installed

· Will require to purchase a Windows (7 or 10) License in order to install and use Windows on BootCamp


Method 2: Using Virtualization software to use Windows

The use of virtualization software such as Parallels or VMware Fusion or Oracle VirtualBox allows the run and use Windows on top of MacOS, allowing to use MacOS and Windows side by side.

Important Notes

· Need at least a minimum of 60GB of free hard drive space on your startup drive

· Need at least a minimum of 8GB of RAM installed

· Will require to purchase a Windows (7 or 10) License in order to install and use Windows

· Oracle VirtualBox is Free, although there will be performance issue while running ArcGIS software suite and therefore not recommended

· Parallels and VMware Fusion requires paid licenses in order to use
