Industry classification codes can be used in business databases to search by industry. There are different classification systems.

North American Industry Classification System (NAICS)
The U.S., Canada, and Mexico have used NAICS to classify industries since the 1990s. It replaced the SIC system.
Standard Industrial Classification (SIC)
The U.S. government used this industry classification system starting in the 1930s. It has since been replaced with NAICS, but is still used in some databases.
International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC)
This classification system is used by the United Nations Statistics Division and can be found in some databases.
