Destress with HPU Libraries

Self-Care

Take 5-minute breathing breaks

Sit up straight, eyes closed, with a hand on your belly. Slowly inhale through your nose, feel the breath start in your abdomen, and exhale through your mouth.

Move your body outdoors

Take a walk, run, hike, or swim outdoors for at least 15 minutes; it can clear your head, allow you to enjoy nature, and get you out into a refreshed place. Enjoy the moment and be aware of sounds and smells outside and how each step or swimming stroke feels.

Replenish your body with nutrients and water

Prep meals ahead of time so you are less likely to skip meals; include various whole foods in your diet, especially vegetables, fruit, whole grains, beans, legumes, healthy fats, and small portions of good-quality proteins. Also, have plenty of water to keep hydrated.

Talk to friends and love ones to keep you positive

Having a few family members or friends you know you can call, text, or virtually hang out with when you need to talk is helpful. You can also schedule an appointment with the Counseling and Behavioral Health Services (CBHS) department to provide FREE and CONFIDENTIAL counseling services to current registered HPU students.

Sleep renovates your body and mind

Remember, your body needs 6-8 hours of sleep to function properly. One great tip to increase sleeping habits is to turn off all electronics at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Download apps to help you lock out no screen time, track your sleep patterns, schedule naps, and listen to calming sounds to help you sleep.
