Note that this process is easiest if you are using Firefox with the extension installed and pop-up blocker disabled.
Run your search in ScienceDirect. Check off the boxes located to the left of the references you would like to save to your EndNote Basic account, and click on Export. To learn more about searching ScienceDirect, click here.
Choose the Export file: RIS (for EndNote, Reference Manager, ProCite) and click Export.
If the ResearchSoft Direct Export Helper is present, first try choosing that option, since it functions as a direct export. Check that the Open with button is selected, and click OK.
If your computer's settings are optimal, you will be prompted to log in to your EndNote Basic account. Your references will export directly into your EndNote Basic account.
Note: If a pop-up box apears for "Choose Destination" instead of EndNote Web Login box, skip to step # 12.
Open a new tab in your browser and click on EndNote button on the top left side of the screen to log in to your EndNote Basic account.
Click on [Unfiled] to display the references that you have saved. Check off the boxes located to the left of the references you would like to add to group. Select an existing group or create a new group.
Your references should be saved to the specified group.
Step # 12
If you are prompted a pop-up box for "Choose Destination" instead of EndNote Web Login box, select Save file and click OK. The reference file will probably be saved in your computer's Downloads folder.
Open a new tab in your browser and click on the Endnote button on the top left side of the screen to log in to your EndNote Basic account. Select the Collect tab and click on Import References.
Browse and select the reference file you saved earlier (probably in your Downloads folder). Select ScienceDirect as your Import Option. If ScienceDirect does not appear in your drop-down box, you may need to click on Select Favorites, select ScienceDirect, and add it to your Favorites list first. Select a new group (or an existing group) for these references, enter a new group name, click OK and click Import.
Your references should be saved to the specified group.
